Familiar Yirgacheffe returns with perfectly elegant balance
Creamy and juicy coffee roasted in a light profile for pour overs.
This year’s harvest of Ethiopia Reko is classic Yirgacheffe excitement - all sweet, delicate citrus and peach aromatics in a lusciously-textured cup. We’d expect nothing less from this privately-owned wet mill from whom we’ve sourced for years.
Located within the Kochere Woreda (local district) of the famous Yirgacheffe appellation, Reko produces consistently superlative Grade 1 lots, which indicates the highest quality of picking and sorting. The surrounding high-elevation coffeelands are responsible for much of the beautiful flavor you’ll experience from these local landrace varieties. Kurume, with its smaller seed size and heightened sweetness, is one of the most prominent of the superlative varieties that grow in Kochere.
Reko invests in a quality-driven washed process that features multiple levels of sorting and a delicately-controlled water and air-fermentation process that lasts about 48 hours. In the final stages, the still-wet parchment-covered coffee is evenly dried on raised, shaded beds for 10-12 days, before being slowly conditioned for two weeks.
We’re delighted to share our fresh crop Ethiopia Reko with you! We recommend paper filtered, by-the-cup pour over methods to get the most articulate brews of this Yirgacheffe wonder. Get dialed-into sweet orange, white peach, and fragrant florals by starting with a 1:17 brew ratio, filtered water at 209-210℉, a medium grind, and a 3-3.5 minute brew cycle.
