Two six ounce bags of the rare and elusive Pink Bourbon cultivar
Our buyer met Rodrigo Sanchez in 2015, just one year after he had planted 3 hectares of a new variety discovered on his family farm, Finca Monteblanco, in Huila, Colombia. "The trees were unfamiliar, but had broad leaves that looked like Gesha. From what I understand, it is more of a Gesha than a Pink Bourbon.” Rodrigo explains. He soon discovered that the character of the coffee in the cup reminded him of Gesha as well. “I actually like Pink Bourbon more because the body is fuller and there is a more balanced acidity.” This was the beginning of the Pink Bourbon lot separation at Monteblanco.
Along with the unique varietal attributes, the region of Huila produces stand out Colombian coffee with its own unique qualities. The climate of Huila is very diverse due to the conversion of the Andes Mountains, Central Mountain Range, Eastern Mountain Range, and the Magdalena River Valley. Huila produces eighteen percent of Colombia's coffee and is distinguished by professionals for its bright acidity and floral, caramel aroma. Pink Bourbon cultivar is a unique hybrid of red and yellow bourbon. The cherries are a dazzling pink color and in the cup has a sweetness and complexity like no other.
Perfect for yourself or as a gift to dive into discovering two of the most exciting coffees of the year. This box set provides a true tasting experience -- including two six ounce bags of Finca Monteblanco Pink Bourbon coffee, processed as a washed and a natural, along with an information card on the coffee from Rodrigo himself. The washed has delicate, complex flavors of lemon candy, floral cantaloupe melon, and honey. The natural is full with pleasing fruit notes of grape, stone fruit, and strawberry that are sweet and do not overwhelm. These coffees showcase the years of process experimentation the team at Monteblanco have perfected to develop flavor profiles perfect for each varietal on the farm.
